It all started on a roof. My name is Scott and my partner Geri and I bought our first home in 2020 knowing we were going to have to replace the roof and that we were going to have to do it ourselves. What started as a two week plan turned into about 10 weeks of the hardest work I’ve ever done. After resting for about a year I was able to realize that I learned so many things (never do your own roof being one of them) about constructing things, creativity with heavy materials and that I loved building stuff. Next was a custom black walnut closet build which left me sitting on a bunch of black walnut leftovers. I decided to design and build a matching bench and since then woodworking and I haven’t spent a day apart.

Over the years I have slowly built up my small home shop where I complete all of my builds. I love making fine furniture with unique twists and angles for an updated take on midcentury modern styles made out of classic hardwoods. I make designs that pop into my mind and I also love working on custom commission pieces. Contact me if you’re interested in that!

Oh and did I mention that this is just part of what I do? I’m a mental health therapist by day and a woodworker by every other minute I’m awake. The reason I decided to use the name Heartwood is 2-fold. It refers to the rich center of the tree, where all of the greatest contrast, color, shape and beauty lives. It also captures the spirit that I want to create items with love and care for people that I love and care about.
